Do you really think the Grateful Dead peaked in November 1967?

"Do you really think the Grateful Dead peaked in November 1967?"

I was being a bit vague with that. I find that their abilities peaked from 1967 through about halfway into 1969. If I had to narrow it down to one year, 1968 was their peak. They were on fire throughout that whole year.

Then again, when I'm in the mood for the their tighter, jazzy material, I'd say end of '73 and a good part of '74 was their peak for that particular sound.

I don't like to compare '60s Dead to '70s Dead as they are just way too different (except when they were transitioning to their '70s sound, parts of '69, '70, and '71 can be compared to each other). It's ultimately a matter of preference. Both eras really are just as good (assuming you stop at '74).

So I actually think they had 2 peak periods. The first from around '67 - '69, and the second around '72 '- '74. Of course '70 and '71 are amazing too though.

In reality, they probably peaked in 1989. However, I find that it all rolls into one.

Interesting. Well regarding the Brent era, I find their playing continued to improve from 1989 into Spring of 1990 with that Spring tour possibly being the best tour they did with Brent. Summer of '89 was pretty amazing too though.
